designing your collection: multiple choice?

When it comes to designing my collection, I have a strict rule that not many die-hard Vogers follow. Here it goes: I never buy two or more of the same shoe (even if it is in a different color). It doesn’t matter how much I LOVE the shoe, I just won’t do it. Vogs are serious footwear. I don’t mess around.

Of the many things I know for sure, it’s that John Fluevog will always come out with incredible styles – no matter what season it is. I always look forward to seeing what’s new. This is why I just can’t bring myself to purchase two of the same shoe.

Note: What works for me may not work for you. That’s perfectly fine. Different strokes for different folks. For example, Madam Shirley has the Malibrans in black and red. This works for her. She uses this shoe quite a bit – especially when trekking around San Francisco. The Malibrans are gorgeous, practical, and suit Madam Shirley’s needs. For people who are particular about their footwear, or have sizing issues, I can definitely understand why purchasing multiples is necessary. Since I tend to get bored easily, two of the same shoe just doesn’t suit me.

It’s not that I haven’t been tempted. Remember the Hotcakes? I was kinda tempted to purchase the brown ones when they went on sale. However, my strict “no multiples” rule negated that possibility quickly. Recently, the Fluevog site announced that the Malibrans will be coming in a new color for spring. Be still my beating heart. I could really use some pink in my arsenal. Le sigh.

For spring 2013, new colors are coming out for the Sandra, Zaza, and Guide. My collection could definitely use these new gorgeous colors. Unfortunately, I don’t plan on breaking my rule anytime soon.

What Vogs would you or do you have multiples in? Why do you love them so much? In what colors would you like to see specific Vogs in? Please post to comments:)

  1. i am actually more looking forward to the men’s collection this spring. the hope: promise has come out in a really gorgeous dark blue that my hubby says he would like to see on one of the men’s shoes. i agree. the choices of colors on the men’s collection have been expanding wonderfully but there’s still somewhat of a gap. for instance, i LOVE the green BLT (radio family), and if it had come out in a similar dark hued blue, my husband would have picked that up right away. there are some really bright blues in the collection right now, but they’re too bright even for me.

    • For me, because I’m in pre-wedding planning mode, I’d really like to see more Vogs in cream, especially something in the Mini family. I’m seriously considering buying the Amie in cream because they’d be a great reception shoe. I know you have them. Any thoughts? In particular, I’d like notes on sizing.

      • yes, i can definitely vouch for the amie. not just gorgeous but soft and comfortable. i wore them for a whole day of walking at disneyland earlier this month and my feet felt great afterwards. not even a little bit of soreness. the only thing is that it doesn’t have much arch support BUT it’s not completely flat either like the radios. i guess the gentle arch in the amies work really well for my somewhat flat feet. … and of course you wouldn’t be doing much walking doing a wedding reception, right?

as for sizing, it runs true to size, and it allows for some stretch as well. also remember that you should get flats on the larger end of your sizing versus what you would get for heels. however, the leather is so soft and supple (definitely thinner than most fluevog leather) that it would stretch and mold around your toes very easily. i had to buy them in the 6 (smallest size available for the cream) which is fine because i wear them with socks/thick tights for the most part. they’re a little loose when i go barefoot in them, which means i wouldn’t run in them without socks.

  2. Sigh. They are available in 9.5 on Amazon at a great price. However, I’m on FlueLent and I should probably go with the size 9s. Also, with the date not being set, I really need to focus and be wise with my spending – especially with this wedding happening at some point. Finally, I recently decided that if I’m wearing a short dress, then yes, I may need new shoes. If I go with a long dress that covers my legs, then I’m sporting the red Wonder Woman Bordens. ‘Cuz on my wedding day, I need to summon my inner super powers for the photos. Haha!

Btw, I should get the Bordens back mid next week. The leather is taking time to come in. But I have a drafted post ready, so folks can see how boots can be altered to fit larger calves. Sigh. This revelation could be very, very dangerous. ;D

    • i don’t think wedding shoes should count for flueLent. just sayin. and the great price at amazon should be taken into consideration as part of your wise monetary decisions for the wedding. 🙂

looking forward to the new custom boots! and yeah, for that cobbler’s price, it would definitely be dangerous for you.

      • PUSHER! Haha! The wedding won’t be for a while, so I’ll be patient. Besides, I don’t think I can make any hardline shoe decisions until I know exactly what the dress is going to be like. This PRE-planning is exhausting. I’m ready to declare an 80s potluck. BYO acid wash. No glass clinking. Couple’s kisses will happen by way of the moonwalk or your best Duran Duran song. Who’s with me?!

  3. lol, i’m down, except for the acid wash. *shudder* ok, i’ll stop pushing … i didn’t realize it was still PRE-planning (which i’ve never heard of!). maybe by the time you’re ready, the cream amies will be super-discounted on fluevog bc it’ll be several seasons old.

    • Yay! Thanks for the discount wishes. Every dollar counts:) Yes. No date has been set. For the next three months (or so), Jose and I are just collecting information and ideas. From there, we’ll plan. It’s a bit tough because I’m in AZ and he’s in CA. So much of the getting married process depends on me going back. Though optimistic, the CA academic market just doesn’t look very good. Also, the sad reality is I’m not what they want:( (I tell myself it’s because they don’t know me yet! Plus, they haven’t seen my shoes!!)

  4. I may not be the best indicated to be answering this–mainly because I have not rules when it comes to Fluevogs. I LUV them so much I am relentless when it comes to adding that special pair to my ever growing collection. So. Here it goes. Please don’t judge hee hee… Not too harshly anyway. All is fair in LOVE and VOGs after all!

What Vogs would you or do you have multiples in?
    1. Guides: I have Turquoise, Klimt Blue, had the brown but did not fit right so returned them. I regret not getting the Blood Orange onese when they first came out! Really kicking myself for that one. I am currently considering the Fuschia and Yellow.
    2. Malibran: Have the Blood Orange and the Light Blue Aqua. Had the black and sold them. Plan on getting the new Lilac. Regret not purchasing he Turquoise Blue and I think there was a purple one too.
    3. Sandras: Have the Bright Orange and the new Black and White! Love my Sandras. Hope they make more colors so that I can grow that family.
    4. Hope Promises. Have the Sage. Want the new Blue. Regret not purchasing the Cranberry /Redish ones
    5. ZaZas: Just purchased the Red/Pink combo. Plan on getting the Green/Purpe. Sold the Brown/Green combo. They were too short for me.
    6. Luxon. Have the black. Would totally buy other colors. Have considered the yellow. But will wait and see what happens
    7. Adriana Roxana. Have the brown. Would by another pair to either trick them out or if they had another awesome color combo.
8.Bunford. Have the red. Would consider the other colors. They are that sexy!
9.QTees–I need more colors of this one. Wish they would bring back some of those gorgeous color combos of the days of old!
10.Miracle Meera: I have the original green combo and the silver/bronze/gold Sharanpal. Would love the black ones too!
    11. Impule: Own the black and the red. Love these! Brown is cool too
    12. Mollie Johnson. These are gorgeous in just about every color combo. I am actually shocked I only have one pair….
    13. Pilgrims! Love my pilgrims. Have the Lilac and Red. Want the brown also. Gorgeous!
    14. Viardot. Have yellow. Have considered the black also. By the way there are some gorgeous ivory ones out there!!! hint, hint
15.Radio CBCs .. have the purple. Am realy eyeballing the cheetah print now ha ha….
    16. Mini Hotcakes. I hope they come back in some other awesome color
    17. Mini BabyCakes… Please, please bring back more colors! I need more babycakes in my life.
    18. Operetta Renata Sandals: have orange and red and wear them all the time in summer
    19. Kathys: Blue/Purple and White/Camel are mine! Need more colors:)
20: Danielson: I have the purple/Grey. Regret not purchasing the other colors.

Why do you love them so much?
Mostly, if the shoes are comfortable and the adorableness factor is way up.. This usually makes me cave. I can then wear those that I love the most with many outfits.

In what colors would you like to see specific Vogs in?
Malibran or Luxon: Turqouise, Yellow, Purple

    • Amazing collection! You and I are on the same page. I’m looking to add some turquoise and yellow to my collection, along with orange and green. For now, I’m okay on the purple, but would love to add a good burgundy.

    • i’m with joanne … amazing! i am drooling at all the beautiful shoes you have. i wish i’d come to fluevog when the renatas were still around.

      • That’s what ebay is for, darling:)

        • lol, that’s true. but i haven’t yet come across size 5 renatas on ebay or anywhere else. 😦 on the bright side, i’m looking at the forthcoming hopeful assured heels to possibly fill this gap in my collection. the turquoise pair is gorgeous. and so is the black. what an amazing new shoe. in fact, i’d buy all three colors if i had the money!

          • For spring 2013, I’m also loving the Hopeful: Assured in the turquoise and mustard colors. It’s funny how the leathers seem to rotate. A few years ago, there were flats in the Thanks family that came out in those same colors. Though I don’t have anything from the Hopeful family, I’m really liking the offerings. The Rosy is gorgeous and if the Kanawa could zip up, the green ones would be mine:)
